Creatives Ideas for DIY Wedding Photography

Should you DIY your wedding photos?

When it comes to wedding photography, you want the best quality images possible. This is one of the most important days of your life, and it is something you will cherish forever. It’s great for you to connect with your photographer to capture authentic, real moments on your wedding day. But sometimes, your guests may not be as connected to the wedding photographer. They are there for you after all. Setting up these DIY wedding photography options at your wedding is a good way to keep your guests engaged and serve up some happy memories.

DIY and More

You should always invest in a photographer for your wedding, if at very least to have the least amount of stress for your day. Then, you can focus on getting married to the love of your life. But as some fun alternative options to get your guests involved, these DIY wedding photography ideas are a fun additional way to make some memories.

Wedding Photo Booth

Wedding photo booths are easier to set up than you think. There are many iPad and tablet apps out there where you can set up a photo booth with a light and stand, so your guests can to enjoy an easy, hassle free digital photo booth experience.

Disposable Cameras

Disposable cameras are a fun and interactive way to get your guest involved at your wedding. Leaving these on the tables for your guests to take their own pictures will show you your own wedding from their perspective. Make sure to note that guests must leave these disposable cameras behind for you to collect at the end of the night. It’s a neat way to see how the people who know you best see your special day.

Polaroid Wall

A super fun idea for weddings is an Instax or Polaroid wall. Set up an instant camera and a wall with string/wire and clothespins for your guests to take their own photos. Then at the end of the night, you’ll have photos of all your guests and they can have a small extra keepsake from your wedding.

Start a Hashtag

Start a wedding hashtag so you can collect your guest’s digital photos in one place. Make sure to note on your invitation and at your reception that guests should be using the hashtag. Then you can go through Instagram and see your special day from your loved ones’ perspective.

Selphy Printer

Get a Selphy printer so your guests can print 4×6” photographs from their phones or tablets. You can then have a bunch of guest-made prints, and they can take home a nice little keepsake.

I love attending weddings that have both options! A professional is important for those styled and key shots during the event. The other friends and family shots are fun glimpses into the day that you don’t get to see as the bride and groom.

  16. mrhappywork@gmail.com says:

We got a professional wedding photographer for ours and they did a phenomenal job. Well worth the cost and beautiful photos. Like anything, you need to do your research.

I have seen the photo booths popping up quite a lot though. I think a combo of both DIY and professional can be nice, but don’t forget the professional! 🙂
